Sheremetyevo Airport starts providing services to Sochi-2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games spectators and participants with reduced mobility — passengers with reduced mobility now offered a range of new services by the Airport

Sheremetyevo International Airport has implemented its comprehensive program onВ setting upВ aВ barrier-free environment. The aim ofВ the program was toВ create aВ comfortable environment for passengers with reduced mobility, including spectators and participants ofВ the Sochi-2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

AsВ may beВ recalled, this past December, Sheremetyevo Airport passed aВ scheduled check byВ experts from the International Olympic Committee. According toВ the experts, the Airport now stands ready toВ receive spectators and participants ofВ the XIВ Winter Paralympic Games inВ Sochi inВ 2014.

For the purposes ofВ preparing for the Paralympic Games, Sheremetyevo Airport made the appropriate arrangements.

First and foremost, Airport infrastructure was upgraded, which entailed the modification ofВ terminals inВ order toВ provide services toВ passengers with reduced mobility, inВ due consideration ofВ demanding international standards and the respective requirements ofВ Russian Federation law.

Check-in, information and baggage-trace counters, asВ well asВ counters for filling inВ customs declarations, have been modified for wheelchair-bound passengers. Tactile paving inВ Airport terminals now helps passengers find their way toВ interactive information counters, where they can summon the respective service agent. Different service areas have been outfitted with tactile maps for blind and vision-impaired passengers. Alarm buttons have been installed inВ all washrooms.

Special telephones for hearing-impaired passengers and airport visitors have been installed inВ terminals. The phones come complete with helpful features such asВ aВ phone line amplifier that delivers sound upВ toВ 53В dB, hearing-device compatibility, and aВ Braille touchpad for the blind and vision-impaired.

The Sheremetyevo International Airport official website now boasts a special section called “Passengers with Reduced Mobility” (http://www.svo.aero/special-services/), where visitors can access all of the required information and complete a request for special services at the Airport.

InВ order toВ provide services for passengers with reduced mobility, Sheremetyevo Airport has purchased additional special equipment: wheelchairs for passenger shuttling between terminals, including power wheelchairs (allowing the passenger toВ use the wheelchair without any assistance), wheelchairs for the provision ofВ inflight services toВ passengers, asВ well asВ multi-level stretchers.

Sheremetyevo Airport has also implemented anВ electro-mobile service toВ transport passengers between the terminals ofВ the South Terminal Complex (Terminals D, E, F). This service allows passengers toВ get toВ the right terminal within aВ short period ofВ time, and isВ free for passengers with reduced mobility and the elderly.

What’s more, two special transport vehicles have been purchased to ferry passengers with a disability (temporarily-reduced mobility) between terminals and to hotels in case of flight delay/cancellation, as well as two extra ambulifts.

The Airport now provides services entailing the accompanying ofВ passengers with reduced mobility byВ anВ Airport agent toВ assist the passenger inВ clearing passport control.

All personnel involved inВ the provision ofВ services toВ passengers with reduced mobility were trained atВ JSCВ MASH Corporate University inВ accordance with the training course approved byВ the All-Russian Society ofВ the Disabled. Staff also attended aВ number ofВ practical workshops and training sessions onВ providing services toВ disabled passengers.

In February — early March 2014, plans call for the implementation of a special service for wheelchair-bound passengers — complimentary baggage trolleys in arrival halls. The baggage trolleys come equipped with fasteners and can be used by wheelchair-bound passengers without any additional assistance. While operating his/her wheelchair, the passenger can move about with his/her baggage independently if so desired.

As may be recalled, in 2013, Sheremetyevo Airport provided services to 42.9 thousand passengers with reduced mobility — 42.8% more than in 2012. According to the forecast for 2014, this indicator will be considerably higher thanks to the high volume of participants and spectators expected to attend the Paralympic Games, possibly exceeding 70 thousand passengers with reduced mobility.

Sheremetyevo International Airport has been recognized asВ the top European airport offering the best service quality inВ 2012 according toВ the results ofВ the Airport Service Quality research program atВ ACI (Airports Council International).

Sheremetyevo International Airport has won the Adam Smith Institute award in the nominating category “Best airport re-design project in Russia and the CIS.” Awards were also presented for the personal achievements of Sheremetyevo Airport specialists in the implementation of an ambitious project involving the construction of the new Passenger Terminal A at Vladivostok Airport — an important step in preparing Vladivostok and Primorsky Krai for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in 2012.

According to 2013 results, Sheremetyevo Airport has been recognized as one of the most comfortable European airports for passengers travelling with families (according to the ranking published by the global travel site “Skyscanner”). 35 experts from different European countries, including Russia, rated the continent’s 20 largest airports.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the honored recipient of the V Prize named after Elena Mukhina — a prestigious award normally presented to enterprises and public figures for their contribution to the social inclusion of the disabled and development of adaptive sport. This year, the award presentation coincided with the Sochi-2014 Paralympic Games.

According toВ 2013В results, Sheremetyevo Airport passenger traffic amounted toВ 29В million 256 thousand people, which isВ 11.7% more than inВ 2012.
