Germany's second largest airline continues to expand its presence in Eastern Europe. From 30 April 2011 airberlin will commence a service between Zurich and Skopje in partnership with Kosova Airlines. An Airbus A320 with 174 seats will take off every Wednesday and Saturday bound for the Macedonian capital and will then make the return flight to Zurich. The number of flights on the route will then be increased to three per week when the winter schedule starts on 1 November 2011.A one-way flight can be booked for as little as CHF 131 including taxes, charges and topbonus miles. Germany's second largest airline opened an exclusive parking area at Munich Airport on Wednesday 27.04.2011. As part of its luxury service scheme airberlin has established another time-saving service for holders of a topbonus Gold or Silver Card in the form of its exclusive parking area in car park P5 at Munich Airport which is located in the immediate vicinity of the gate. Use of this exclusive parking area is only subject to standard parking charges which can be paid at the parking machine in cash or using an EC or credit card. No other charges are made. There are also separate check-in counters in the terminal for holders of a topbonus Gold or Silver Card which means that overall airberlin has successfully minimised waiting times for these passengers. Due to the high demand, only one day after issuing a new 8.25 % bond, Air Berlin PLC will end the subscription ahead of schedule. The subscription period will end today and thus earlier than planned, as the subscriptions for the bonds already exceed the maximum principal amount of the bond issue of 150 million Euro. The subscription period for the bonds issued on 12 April was originally planned to run through 15 April. The bonds will be issued at 100 % of their principal amount and will be redeemed at 100 % of their principal amount on 19 April 2018, subject to prior early redemption. In March 2011, airberlin welcomed 2,594,556 passengers on board, i.e. slightly less (-0.2 percent) than in the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2010: 2,599,960 passengers). Fleet capacity utilization increased by 1.8 percentage points, namely from 71.8 to 73.6 percent. In comparison with March of the previous year, capacity was reduced by 2.7 percent. At the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin Joachim Hunold, CEO airberlin, and the Deputy Mayor of the Italian capital Rome, Mauro Cutrufo, signed a blanket joint venture agreement to promote tourism.The agreement marks the start of cooperation between the City of Rome and airberlin. For example airberlin will be able to offer its passengers reduced entry prices to tourist attractions in Rome. The second largest German airline offers an extensive range of flights to Italy and will be doubling its number of flights between the German and Italian capitals as from may 2011.
