Domodedovo Airport Reports September Results
A total number of 2,875,168 travellers used the services of Moscow Domodedovo Airport in September 2012, which represents the increase by 8.4% compared to September 2011. There were 23,717 take-offs and landings in September, making a total of over 190,900 for the first nine months of 2012. Compared to the same period in 2011, in January-September 2012 passenger traffic at Domodedovo increased by 9% to 21,592,365. Most popular destinations for travellers from Domodedovo during these nine months of 2012 were Antalya, London, Barcelona, Dubai and Munich (over 2,366,000 travellers in total).
Domodedovo airport is becoming increasingly attractive for the transfer passengers, offering convenient transit thanks to the broadest route network in Russia comprising a total of 243 destinations, 85 of which are unique to the Moscow aviation hub. In September the shares of Domodedovo passengers to and from three major Russian and CIS cities (Rostov-on-Don, Kiev, Saint Petersburg) using through tickets in the general passenger traffic to and from these destinations were 37.4%, 36.8%, and 33.5% respectively1.
The biggest growth in the traffic in September has traditionally been recorded in domestic airlines(DAL), which added 14.9% to their passenger numbers compared to September 2011, reaching 1,147,278 passengers. Total amount of domestic passengers for the period of nine months 2012 is 8,754,791 (14.2% more than in January-September 2011), with the fastest growth on routes to/from Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Anapa, and Chelyabinsk. Passenger numbers on these four routes were 2,297,000 travellers, or 25.8% more than for the same period of 2011.
Passengers of international airlines(IAL) totalled 1,727,890 in September this year, which is 4.5% more than in September 2011. International passenger traffic for the period of nine months of 2012 increased by 5.7% compared to January-September 2011 and totalled 12,837,574. The fastest growth (46.1%) was recorded on the Minsk, Kiev, Burgas, Bangkok, and Barcelona routes, which transported 1,330,000 passengers in January-September 2012.
Cargo traffic at Domodedovo Airport in September 2012 grew by 6% compared to the first autumn month of the previous year, reaching 17,683 tons. The increase in January-September 2012 compared to the same period of 2011 was 3.9% which is 140,674 tons.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport of Russia in terms of passenger traffic. In 2011, total passenger traffic of the airport amounted to 25,701,610 people which let Domodedovo to become the first Russian airport to join the category of the largest airports in Europe on the classification of the Airports Council International (ACI). Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the base airport in Russia for member airlines of two largest global airline alliances – oneworld and Star Alliance. Since 2009, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been on top of the list of the best airports in Eastern Europe in terms of the service quality, according to the annual survey by the independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
